The Girl From Bare Cove

An original folk opera written for actor-musicians, The Girl from Bare Cove follows a family in crisis as they face the near-loss of one of their own. With songs inspired by the folk sounds of New England and a story rooted in the ghostly traditions and fairy tales of that place, this modern-day fable invites us to explore the communities we share and the worlds we build for ourselves.

The Girl from Bare Cove Sept 2013 NYC Workshop

From the September 2013 workshop production of THE GIRL FROM BARE COVE: a folk opera at The Alchemical Theater Lab in NYC. Direction by Maridee Slater. Words and Music by Jillie Mae Eddy. Performances by Jillie Mae Eddy, Paul Eddy, Sophia Holtz, Brittany Parker, and Luke Wygodyny.

THE GIRL FROM BARE COVE is a folk opera written for an ensemble of actor-musicians that follows a family in crisis as they face the near-loss of one of their own. With songs inspired by the folk sounds of New England and a story rooted in the ghostly traditions and fairy tales of that place, this modern-day fable invites us to explore the communities we share and the worlds we build for ourselves.

A folk opera for survivors of sexual violence.

We aim to initiate a folk art movement that will inspire and encourage survivors, their loved ones, and anyone intimately affected by these acts to transform their experiences into works of art. We believe that our shared histories have just as much power to bring us together as they do to keep us apart--and that's exactly what we're going to do with this show.
